Gameplay Guidelines

Purpose-

To foster a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all players and game masters (GMs) involved in tabletop roleplaying games. This code of conduct applies to all in-person and online sessions.

General Guidelines-

1. Respect Everyone

- Treat fellow players and GMs with kindness and consideration.

- Be mindful of pronouns, names, and personal boundaries.

- Avoid interrupting, talking over others, or dominating the spotlight.

2. Be Inclusive

- Create space for all voices, especially quieter players.

- Avoid inside jokes or references that exclude others.

- Welcome newcomers with patience and support.

3. Consent & Comfort -

- Use tools like Lines and Veils, X-card, or Session Zero to establish boundaries.

- No means no- respect when someone opts out of a scene or theme.

- Check in regularly, especially after intense or emotional moments.

4. Be Reliable -

- Show up on time and prepared for each session.

- Communicate promptly if you’re running late or can’t attend.

- Honor the group's time and effort.

5. Rules Are a Framework, Not a Weapon -

- Focus on shared storytelling, not rule-lawyering.

- Allow the GM flexibility to keep the game flowing.

- If rules disagreements arise, resolve them calmly or after the session.

6. Character vs. Player -

- Keep in-character conflict distinct from out-of-character feelings.

- Don’t use characters as excuses for harmful behavior.

- Respect others’ play styles and boundaries.

7. Table Etiquette -

- No distracting side conversations or device use during play.

- Keep snacks, dice, and books organized.

- Clean up your space after the session.

GM Responsibilities-

1. Foster a respectful, balanced play environment.

2. Be transparent and open to feedback.

3. Prioritize player safety and comfort over plot or mechanics.

4. Set expectations clearly at the start and uphold the code of conduct.

Safety Tools You Can Use-

1. Session Zero – Discuss expectations, tone, and boundaries before starting.

2. X-Card – A tool anyone can use to immediately stop a scene. Lines and Veils – Set limits on content (lines = hard stops,

veils = fade to black).

3. Open Door Policy – Players may leave at any time for any reason without explanation.

Unacceptable Behavior-

1. Discrimination or harassment of any kind (racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, etc.).

2. Bullying, intimidation, or personal attacks.

3. Non-consensual in-game content (e.g., graphic violence, sexual themes).

4. Repeated rule-breaking or disruption of group harmony.

5. Doxxing, stalking, or violating someone’s privacy.

Enforcement- If someone violates the code:

First Step: Respectful conversation reminding of code of conduct, setting clear expectations

Repeat or Serious Offense: Removal from the session or group.

The GM or designated safety lead may act to protect the group at any time.

Our Shared Goals-

- Tell great stories together.

- Build trust, not just characters.

- Have fun while respecting each other.

Character Creation

1. Please Come Prepared

GM may have common supplies such as scratch paper, dice, pencils and character sheets available if needed but to alleviate demand and time having your own is preferable.

2. Ability Scores

Create stats using the standard 27 point buy method as found in such tools as

D&D Beyond or Chicken-Dinner.

3. Level Appropriate

Create or use characters as appropriate for the range as noted in the one-shot summary.

4. Ongoing/Long-term campaigns need not apply

If playing in an Ongoing/long-term campaign all character creation and campaign goals will be covered and finished in a session zero game slot.

- For any newcomers do not stress if this does not make sense to you as of yet -

Our dedicated GM's are here to help along the way to your first session.

There are many community tools to assist with these tasks or possibly even give one of our story canon, House Hero premades a try.
